In the spirit of Big Energy Saving Week, we’ve brought you some top tips for making small changes around the home to help you to reduce heat loss and your energy bills. Follow our tips to ensure your home stays warm and cosy this winter.

1. Watch out for draughts

It may sound obvious but check around the edges of your windows and doors for any draughts. Draught-proofing (think using a draught excluder in front of doors) could save you up to £30 a year off your energy bills, and nearly 50 per cent of households haven’t done this yet. Check yours now.

2. Keep doors shut

Have rooms that you don’t use that often? Think spare bedrooms and conservatories in the winter. Keeping doors to these unused rooms shut will help to keep the heat where you want it! It’ll also stop cold air from circulating and making your home feel cooler.

3. Move your furniture around

Did you know 42 per cent of homes have a radiator blocked by a piece of furniture? Moving sofas and other items of furniture away from radiators can help the heat circulate better. Plus, it’s nice to have a change every now and again!

4. Don’t delay in the shower

As the weather gets colder we know it can be tempting to spend longer in the shower to warm up, but reducing your time in the shower as little as a minute each day could save you more than £10 a year off your energy bills, not to mention the money you could save if you have a water meter!

5. Don’t overfill the kettle

Ah, a nice warming cuppa, what could be better? Saving money on your energy bills, that’s what! Only boiling as much water as you need for your hot drinks could save homes across the UK £45m collectively each year!
