The Gas Safe Register is the official list of engineers who are qualified to work legally and safely on gas appliances. It has been in existence for five years and, during that time, has investigated 3,500 illegal gas jobs.
The main intention of the Gas Safe Register is to improve and maintain gas safety to the highest standards. It makes sure all gas engineers on the Register are qualified to work with gas.
The Gas Safe Register works to protect the public from unsafe gas work through
a dedicated national investigations team tracking down individuals working illegally
regular inspections of Gas Safe registered engineers
educating consumers and raising awareness of gas safety
investigating reports of unsafe gas work
Every gas engineer carries a Gas Safe Register ID card with their own unique licence number, showing the type of gas work for which they are qualified, so you can be sure that your engineer is legally allowed to do the work.
If someone other than a Gas Safe registered engineer does the gas work in your home, you could be risking the safety of your property and your family. Badly fitted and poorly serviced gas appliances can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide poisoning.
The Gas Safe Register has launched an interactive map at www.staygassafe.co.uk, which allows users to input their postcode and see the number of unsafe gas appliances in their area.
It also offers a reminder service, to which users can sign up and be reminded when it is time for us to return to give their gas appliances their annual check.
Don’t let cowboys into your home.
